The distribution of Acomopterella species in the Palaearctic region has been re-examined in this study, using recently collected material. The European species was found to be distributed in the eastern Palaearctic as well. A second Palaearctic species from Honshu (Japan) is herein described. The morphology of adult specimens was studied by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The shape of functional specialized setae on mid tibiae in Acomopterella and seven further fungus gnat genera is described and the suitability of this character for systematic studies is discussed. Details of a “hind tibial organ” are described. The position of Acomopterella in the tribe Gnoristini is briefly discussed. Acomopterella is found to be more closely related to Speolepta Edwards, 1925, than to any other recent genus.

Details of the male genitalia are described and figured for the first time. The female is described for the first time. Special attention is paid to the clypeus and maxillary palpus, both sexually dimorphic, of which the anatomy is extensively illustrated and discussed with respect to possible function and in the context of palpal modifications found in other Mycetophilidae. Anatomy suggests the palpi of males function as a mechanical tool rather than a probing organ, which is unique among Mycetophilidae and Diptera. Various functional hypotheses are discussed in the context of sexual selection.10aanatomy10aAustralia10afemale description10amaxillary palpus10aMycetophilidae10aParamorganiella adventurosa10asexual dimorphism10asexual selection1 aJaschhof, Mathias1 aBlank, Stephan, M.1 aKallweit, Uwe uhttps://sciaroidea.myspecies.info/node/4465302026nas a2200217 4500008004100000245009300041210006900134300000900203490000900212520135900221653001101580653001501591653001901606653001501625653001601640653001601656653001301672100002201685700001801707856008301725 2009 eng d00aThe Cycloneura Marshall group of genera in New Zealand (Diptera: Mycetophilidae: Leiini)0 aCycloneura Marshall group of genera in New Zealand Diptera Mycet a1-390 v20903 aThe Cycloneura group of genera, as it is here defined, represents a significant component of the Leiini (Diptera: Mycetophilidae) in New Zealand. The group includes little known genera, such as Cawthronia Tonnoir & Edwards, Cycloneura Marshall, Paracycloneura Tonnoir & Edwards, Paradoxa Marshall and Sigmoleia Tonnoir & Edwards, which are reviewed, as well as two new genera, Tonnwardsia gen. n. and Waipapamyia gen. n., which are described here. The prominent feature of Cycloneura-like leiines is the peculiar course of the hind wing veins, CuA2 and A1. Typically, A1 approaches the sinuous course of CuA2, or the two veins even join each other, thereby forming a closed posterior cubital cell. In New Zealand the Cycloneura group is more speciose than previously thought. New species described in this paper are: Paracycloneura inopinata sp. n., Sigmoleia peterjohnsi sp. n., Sigmoleia separata sp. n., Sigmoleiasimilis sp. n., Waipapamyia dentata sp. n., Waipapamyia elongata sp. n., and Waipapamyia truncata sp. n. The New Zealand members of the Cycloneura group do not form a monophyletic group in themselves, but are variously related to extralimital taxa the majority of which is found in the southern Neotropics, South Africa, Australia, and New Caledonia. Possible relationships, with supporting arguments from adult morphology, are discussed.10aLeiini10amorphology10aMycetophilidae10anew genera10anew species10aNew Zealand10aTaxonomy1 aJaschhof, Mathias1 aKallweit, Uwe uhttp://www.online-keys.net/sciaroidea/2000_/Jaschoff&Kallweit_Zootaxa_2090.pdf00534nas a2200121 4500008004100000245015000041210006900191300001000260490000700270100001800277700001800295856009900313 2006 eng d00aA blackbird's nest as breeding substrate for insects – first record of Docosia fumosa Edwards , 1925 (Diptera: Mycetophilidae) from Germany0 ablackbirds nest as breeding substrate for insects first record o a41-430 v131 aRulik, Björn1 aKallweit, Uwe uhttp://www.online-keys.net/sciaroidea/add01/Rulik_&_Kallweit_2006_bird_nest_Docosia_fumosa.pdf00508nas a2200157 4500008004100000245007900041210006900120260001600189300001200205490000700217100002200224700001900246700001800265700001800283856004900301 2003 eng d00a"Taxonomen, die unbesungenen Helden" oder: Sind Taxonomen Wissenschaftler?0 aTaxonomen die unbesungenen Helden oder Sind Taxonomen Wissenscha aHalle/Saale a341-3520 v101 aJaschhof, Mathias1 aStark, Andreas1 aMenzel, Frank1 aKallweit, Uwe uhttps://sciaroidea.myspecies.info/node/2624501382nas a2200277 4500008004100000245014100041210006900182300001200251490000700263520043300270653001100703653001200714653000900726653002500735653001100760653001100771653001100782653001800793653005100811653007100862100002200933700002100955700001800976700001800994856009201012 2006 eng d00aOn the morphology and systematic position of Sciarosoma borealis Chandler, based on new material from Fennoscandia (Diptera: Sciaroidea)0 amorphology and systematic position of Sciarosoma borealis Chandl a231-2410 v123 aMalaise samples from Sweden and Finland.
