Abstract:

The species complex of Trichosia Winnertz, sensu Tuomikoski (1960)
is restricted to Trichosia s. str. The species of the Leptosciarella
Tuomikoski are seen as a separate genus, well substantiated by apomorphic
characteristics such as an apical tooth and awl-like spines at the
tip of the gonostyles. Baeosciara Tuomikoski [three species] and
Mouffetina Frey [four species], which have been treated as separate
genera by Tuomikoski, belong to the subgenus Trichosia Winnertz.
Lestremioides Frey with the type species L. borealis Frey, 1942,
becomes a synonym of Trichosia Winnertz, because of the absence of
apomorphic characteristics.

Currently the genus Trichosia Winnertz includes for the Palaearctic
region 22 recent species which are well differentiated and known
from the male sex. Six species are new for science. All species are
described in detail and the most important characteristics are illustrated
in figures. The determination tables facilitate identification of
the species.
